Teen wanted in killing of 15-year-old boy on SEPTA bus

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Investigators have identified 17-year-old Zayki Davis as the suspect in the shooting death of 15-year-old Zahkir Whitfield aboard a SEPTA bus in West Philadelphia on Saturday. The tragic incident unfolded during an altercation involving several teens, leading to Whitfield being shot in the chest. He was a sophomore at Upper Darby High School and died shortly after the shooting. Authorities believe that Davis used the back door to exit the bus and fired a shot back inside, which fatally struck Whitfield. Surveillance footage was pivotal in identifying Davis, who, along with three other teenagers, fled the scene after the incident.

No arrests had been made as of late Wednesday afternoon, prompting police to ask the public for any information regarding Davis's whereabouts. Counseling and victim advocacy services are available for those impacted by gun violence, underscoring the community's ongoing struggle with such incidents. The police have provided multiple avenues for reporting tips, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in resolving this case.
