Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Philadelphia Department of Streets is set to begin the Roxborough Avenue Stairway Reconstruction Project on April 1, 2025, with public access closing on April 2, 2025. This extensive project will involve demolishing the existing stairway and selected piers, repairing existing piers, and replacing concrete stair treads with more durable steel ones. Additionally, the Boone Street Retaining Wall will be repaired, and portions of Boone Street will be regraded. From April 7 to May 12, 2025, residents and road users can expect intermittent closures at the intersections of Roxborough Avenue and Terrace Avenue, as well as Roxborough Avenue and Boone Street, affecting traffic flow during weekday work hours. Detour signage will be prominently displayed to assist navigation around the construction area.

The project has a budget of $1. 3 million, funded by City Capital funds, and will be carried out by Athena Contracting, Inc. The anticipated reopening of the stairway is scheduled for October 2025. The Department of Streets expresses gratitude to citizens for their understanding and cooperation throughout this important infrastructure enhancement.
