Thanksgiving Holiday Trash and Recycling Collection Schedule

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia will close city departments on November 27 and 28, 2025, in observance of Thanksgiving. During this period, trash and recycling collections will be suspended. The Department of Sanitation will resume collections on November 29, with Thursday’s materials picked up on Saturday and Friday’s on Sunday. Sanitation Commissioner Crystal Jacobs Shipman emphasizes the importance of adhering to collection times, asking residents to set out trash between 5 p. m.

the night before and 7 a. m. on collection days. In holiday weeks, neighborhoods that usually receive two pickups will only have one, requiring residents to plan ahead. This schedule change supports Mayor Parker’s vision for a cleaner city.

Additionally, the announcement serves as a reminder of the city's sanitation regulations. Residents are encouraged to make efficient use of their collection day to minimize waste.
