City Announces the Return of Kensington Nuisance Fire Task Force
The Philadelphia Office of Public Safety has relaunched the Kensington Nuisance Fire Task Force to address the rise in rubbish fires as winter approaches. This initiative aims to reduce incidents by 20 percent while connecting residents with vital social services. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker highlighted the importance of ensuring resident safety during the cold months. The task force is spearheaded by the Overdose Response Unit, comprising staff from Merakey and various city departments, including the Fire and Police Departments.
Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson underscored the dangers posed by rubbish fires, which can escalate rapidly. The task force operates nightly from 8 p. m. to 4 a. m.
