An 8.6 Million Renovation Begins at Philadelphias Oldest Recreation Center, Happy Hollow Playground in Germantown
Philadelphia's Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and city officials broke ground on an $8. 6 million renovation of Happy Hollow Playground, a historic site established in 1911. The renovation will feature a full roof replacement, ADA upgrades, and a new playground, alongside enhancements to safety and community use. Councilmember Cindy Bass emphasized the investment's importance for families in Germantown, while funding from the City’s sugary beverage tax and state grants supports the project.
The renovation will also include new facilities like a computer lab, kitchen, and boxing rooms, significantly modernizing the site. Local leaders believe these upgrades will serve the community for another century. The project received over $2 million in grants from state and federal sources, demonstrating broad support for the initiative. Melissa Scott from the Office of Innovation & Technology noted the project will create a digital access hub, benefiting approximately 20,000 residents. This comprehensive investment aims to preserve Happy Hollow’s legacy while enhancing its role in the community.
