City Announces the Return of Kensington Nuisance Fire Task Force
The Kensington Nuisance Fire Task Force was relaunched by Philadelphia officials to address rising rubbish fires during the winter months. Established in 2024, the initiative aims to reduce fires by 20% this season while improving community safety and well-being. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker noted the importance of the Task Force in ensuring resident safety amid the quick onset of cold weather. The Task Force operates under the Office of Public Safety’s Overdose Response Unit and collaborates with various city agencies.
It includes social service staff, specialized fire apparatus, sanitation support, and police representatives to maintain security. This comprehensive approach seeks to not only mitigate fire risks but also connect the unhoused population with necessary resources. The Task Force operates nightly from 8 p. m. to 4 a.
m. until March 2026. For more information, residents can reach out to the Office of Public Safety via email.
