Grant award announcement Office of Worker Protections Community Outreach and Education Fund

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia’s Office of Worker Protections announced $80,000 in grants to four community organizations aimed at enhancing awareness of local worker protection ordinances. Each group, including the Philly Black Workers Project and the National Domestic Workers Alliance, will receive $20,000 to implement outreach programs. OWP Director Alison Stohr emphasized the importance of collaboration with trusted partners to reach the city’s most impacted communities. Brittany Alston, Executive Director of the Philly Black Workers Project, stressed that understanding workers' rights is critical, especially for Black workers facing discrimination. Nicole Kligerman from the National Domestic Workers Alliance underscored that the funding supports vital outreach to multilingual domestic workers, who often lack knowledge of their rights.

The initiative aligns with the mission of the Office of Worker Protections, established by voters in 2020, to advance and uphold worker protection laws. The grants will facilitate meaningful conversations and the distribution of educational materials in various languages. This funding aims to create a more informed workforce and promote economic security and racial justice in Philadelphia.
