From MCFH to ReACH name change reflects broader mission

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Division of Maternal, Child, and Family Health has officially rebranded as the Division of Reproductive, Adolescent, and Child Health (ReACH) to enhance its focus on reproductive health across all stages of life for Philadelphians. Health Commissioner Palak Raval-Nelson emphasized that this change reaffirms their commitment to all aspects of reproductive health. ReACH Director Aasta Mehta noted that the new name clarifies their service to women, birthing individuals, children, and teens, with a strong emphasis on adolescent health. The division prioritizes equitable health outcomes, particularly in reproductive justice and health equity, as reflected in recent initiatives. These include financial support for organizations addressing abortion access, grant funding to combat period poverty, and a storytelling campaign for pregnant individuals with substance use disorders.

The Philly Joy Bank program, providing a guaranteed income of $1,000 monthly to 250 pregnant Philadelphians, highlights the division's innovative approach. ReACH employs a comprehensive public health strategy, utilizing direct services, health outcomes surveillance, and community education.
