Mayor Cherelle L. Parker confirmed the activation of the One Philly SNAP Support Plan as SNAP funds begin to be released to residents. Calls to Philadelphia’s 311 contact center regarding food assistance surged by 70%, and over 2,200 grant applications have been submitted by community organizations. The city's Free Food and Meals Finder experienced a 500% increase in usage, with over 36,000 views. Parker highlighted the ongoing need for support, noting contributions from local businesses, including Aramark and Dilworth Paxson, totaling $130,000, as well as $6 million from philanthropic partners.
The One Philly initiative aims to assist nearly 500,000 residents affected by disruptions in their SNAP benefits. The city's commitment to addressing food insecurity remains strong despite the challenges. Parker praised the collaboration among various stakeholders, including city officials and nonprofits, to ensure access to food resources. The city will continue to provide updates on the SNAP response plan.
