Rebuild Celebrates A New Chapter in Southwest Philadelphia with the 13.2 Million Renovation of Paschalville Library
The Paschalville Library in Southwest Philadelphia celebrated its reopening after a comprehensive $13. 2 million renovation funded by the City’s Rebuild program. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker noted its importance as a community cornerstone since its establishment in 1915. The extensive upgrades include state-of-the-art HVAC systems, ADA-compliant facilities, and a new media hub supported by a $200,000 donation from the Knight Foundation.
City Council President Kenyatta Johnson emphasized the library's potential to inspire local youth and foster skill development. The project also secured a $150,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development and a $75,000 donation from an individual. The renovations were designed to maintain the building's historical character while providing modern amenities and accessibility. Kelly Richards, President of the Free Library of Philadelphia, praised the transformation's ability to unite the community. This renovation is part of a larger initiative, with six library projects completed in 2025, representing over $37 million invested in Philadelphia's library system.
