The Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) will commemorate the five-year anniversary of Walter Wallace Jr. 's death with two significant community events in Philadelphia on October 23 and 24, 2025. The vigil at Cobbs Creek Park will include speakers such as CPOC Executive Director Tonya McClary and community leaders. The following day, the event “Crisis, Care, and Cops” will take place at Temple Law School, featuring Councilmember Jamie Gauthier and a screening of the documentary “The Care Team. ” Two panels will address the current state of mental health crisis response in Philadelphia and explore advocacy for improved mobile crisis services.

These discussions highlight the urgent need for reform in how mental health crises are handled by law enforcement. CPOC emphasizes community engagement and aims to build trust between residents and police. Accessibility services are offered to ensure inclusivity at both events. This initiative seeks to create a lasting impact on the future of mental health and policing in the city.
