Chinatown Stitch Fall 2025 Design Updates Public Survey

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia officials announced design updates for the Chinatown Stitch project, responding to community input about park space and traffic safety on Vine Street. The new park will include a lawn, playground, pavilion, and walking paths, designed as a vibrant community hub for events and gatherings. Residents expressed concerns about roadway safety, driving the decision to implement two lanes in each direction on Vine Street, complemented by wider sidewalks and separated bike lanes. The city aims to address aggressive driving and pedestrian safety with these improvements. Despite community preference for a one-lane eastbound option, PennDOT mandated that Vine Street maintain two lanes due to its status as an expressway alternate route.

Additionally, plans for a pedestrian bridge at 9th Street are currently on hold while the city seeks construction funding. These updates reflect a commitment to enhancing both safety and community engagement in Chinatown. City officials encourage ongoing public feedback as the project progresses.
