Four things you should know about changes to your water bill

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia water bills will increase starting September 1, 2025, due to a two-year rate hike approved by the Water Rate Board. The Philadelphia Water Department emphasized that these increases are crucial for maintaining infrastructure, including aging pipes and stormwater management systems. The Rate Board, appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council, seeks community input through public hearings. The new rates will affect four bill components: water, sewer, stormwater, and service, reflecting the rising costs of maintaining these essential services. Philadelphia offers assistance programs for qualifying residents, such as a 25% discount for seniors and support for those experiencing financial hardship.

Community Legal Services acted as the Public Advocate during the proceedings, representing the interests of residential and small business customers. Residents have various ways to engage in the rate-setting process, ensuring their voices are heard. The application for relief programs is accessible online, making it easier for residents to seek financial help.
