Big news Were now accepting credit and debit cards for in-person services, plus PhilaDox gets an upgrade!
Beginning September 29, 2025, the Philadelphia Department of Records will accept credit and debit cards for various in-person services, simplifying payments for costly transactions such as realty transfer taxes and document recordings. Previously, customers faced challenges carrying cash or obtaining money orders, leading to unnecessary trips to the bank. A 3. 5% convenience fee will apply for card transactions, but cash and checks will still be accepted without additional charges. The department will also enhance its online platform, PhilaDox, providing a modernized interface while retaining its core functionalities.
This upgrade will facilitate easier searches for public real estate records, including property histories and ownership details. Additionally, services like obtaining copies of real estate documents and accessing historical records at the City Archives will now accept card payments. These changes reflect a commitment to improving the user experience for Philadelphia residents. Overall, the updates aim to streamline processes and reduce the hassle associated with traditional payment methods.
