City Appoints Neighborhood Wellness Court Director

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia has appointed Eleni Belisonzi as the Director of the Neighborhood Wellness Court (NWC) Initiative, reaffirming Mayor Parker's commitment to addressing substance use disorder. The NWC, launched in January 2025, focuses on same-day diversion for individuals arrested, providing immediate support and resources. With $2. 7 million allocated in the city budget for FY 26, the initiative aims to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods like Kensington, where fatal overdoses and homicides have recently declined. Chief Public Safety Director Adam Geer noted the importance of continuing to build on this progress.

Belisonzi's role will involve leading collaboration among various partners, including the Philadelphia Police Department and the Office of Public Safety. Participants in the NWC can access medical care and support services before appearing before a judge, increasing their chances of receiving treatment. The program is designed to restore normalcy in Kensington by addressing the challenges posed by substance use disorder. The initiative represents a significant investment in the health and wellness continuum of the city.
