PCHR Youth Ambassadors spend summer learning Philadelphias laws and applying them to build stronger communities

Philadelphia, PALocal News

This summer, the PCHR Youth Ambassador Program engaged eight Philadelphia youth aged 16-20 in civil rights education and media training. Supported by a Justice Department grant, the program will continue its efforts until at least 2027. Participants explored conflict resolution strategies while producing podcasts on pressing topics, including employment discrimination and gun violence. They also drew inspiration from local leaders, including Philly Black Pride President Jacen Bowman. The program culminated in a closing ceremony where students showcased their podcasts and received completion certificates.

Ambassador Jaala Meade expressed gratitude for the knowledge and friendships gained, while Keion Wall reflected on his initially hesitant but ultimately enjoyable experience. The program empowers participants to drive change within their communities by equipping them with essential tools. Through conversations and acts of leadership, these young leaders are poised to shape Philadelphia’s future.
