New Resources about Domestic Abuse

Philadelphia, PALocal News

A new initiative in Pennsylvania has produced brochures and videos to improve awareness about domestic violence resources for diverse populations. The project involved collaboration between the Office of Domestic Violence Strategies and multiple organizations, prioritizing community feedback to shape the materials. Surveys indicated that over 80% of respondents were non-English speakers, highlighting the necessity for accessible information. The brochures utilize simplified text and visual aids, drawing inspiration from an easy-read model used in the UK. Additionally, the videos feature bilingual volunteers and aim to create a friendly, trustworthy atmosphere.

Each brochure includes a QR code that directs users to videos in their preferred language. This approach addresses the barriers that language can pose to individuals seeking help. The initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring that all community members can access critical information without fear.
