Health Department to Spray for Mosquitoes in West Fairmount

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health will spray for adult mosquitoes in West Fairmount on August 19, 2025, at dusk, in response to elevated populations capable of transmitting the West Nile virus. The treatment will use Duet Duel Action Adulticide, administered through a truck-mounted machine that disperses fine aerosol droplets. If rain occurs, the spraying will be postponed to August 20. Residents are urged to take personal precautions, including wearing long sleeves and using EPA-registered insect repellents, particularly during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. To reduce mosquito-breeding sites, residents should remove items that can hold water, clean roof gutters, and maintain swimming pools.

The West Nile virus can lead to severe health issues, including West Nile encephalitis, underscoring the need for preventive measures. For more details on the West Nile program, residents can visit the state’s website or contact the local health department. This initiative highlights the city's ongoing commitment to public health and safety.
