Health Department to Spray for Mosquitoes in Olney

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health will spray for adult mosquitoes in Olney on August 20, 2025, to address populations that may transmit the West Nile virus. The spraying is scheduled for dusk, with a contingency date of August 21 if inclement weather occurs. Vector Control staff found significant mosquito levels in the area, necessitating this public health measure. The aerosol treatment will involve Duet Duel Action Adulticide, a synthetic pyrethroid with no residual effects. Residents are urged to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, and eliminate standing water to prevent mosquito breeding.

Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk, particularly from April through October. The West Nile virus can lead to severe neurological infections, underscoring the importance of vigilance. For more information, residents can visit the state’s West Nile virus website or contact the local health department.
