5 shot, including 2 kids, at West Philly pool

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Five individuals, including two children, were shot Wednesday outside Christy Rec Center in West Philadelphia shortly after 4 p. m. An 11-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy sustained injuries but are expected to recover. A 16-year-old boy was shot twice in the back and is in critical condition, while another 16-year-old is stable. The shooting resulted from a prior fight at the pool, where around 75 people were present amid high temperatures.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel expressed his disappointment, stating this was once a safe space for children. Both he and Mayor Cherelle Parker pledged to hold those responsible accountable for the violence. Counseling and support services are available for victims and their families affected by this incident. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the police department's tip line.
