The Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) and Department of Licenses & Inspections (L&I) are reviewing a federal report on Fire Lt. Sean Williamson's line-of-duty death in 2022 to enhance safety measures. Fire Commissioner Jeffrey W. Thompson praised Williamson's legacy and pledged to implement the report's recommendations for improved fire and building safety. The tragic incident involved a building collapse that resulted in Williamson's death and injuries to four other firefighters.

L&I aims to strengthen hazard identification protocols in dangerous structures and ensure compliance with safety codes. Commissioner Basil Merenda highlighted the importance of holding negligent property owners accountable to protect first responders. The PFD is exploring ways to increase field incident safety officers and improve personnel accountability systems. Ongoing training for firefighters will now include a new building construction course. Collaboration between PFD and L&I aims to create safer working environments for first responders and the public.
