A woman died and two children were critically injured in a house fire on Stirling Street in Mayfair early Wednesday morning. Firefighters discovered the woman inside the two-story rowhome and rescued a boy and girl, both in critical condition at St. Christopher’s Hospital. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased woman or released the ages of any victims. Additionally, two men and another boy and girl received treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze, which left 10 people displaced and caused significant damage to an adjacent house. Philadelphia homeowners can request free smoke alarm installations through the city’s 311 service. Landlords are required to install smoke alarms on each level of residential properties to enhance safety.
