Family of Kent man killed in suspected drunk driving crash demands justice

Jose Ortiz, a 40-year-old man from Kent, tragically lost his life in a suspected drunk driving crash, prompting his family to seek justice. The fatal accident occurred when Ortiz and his wife were on their way home from a church event, underscoring the devastating impact of impaired driving. Brenda Ortiz, Jose's niece, recounted their last memory together, where he emphasized the importance of faith and life’s purpose. The crash took place at the intersection of 94th Avenue South and South 240th Street, where police arrested the driver of the other vehicle for DUI, and she is now under investigation for vehicular homicide. Jose's wife, who was also in the car, suffered serious injuries, including a broken clavicle and ribs, and is currently recovering in the hospital.

The family expressed their heartache, noting this is the second loss they have suffered in a car accident. In a show of community resilience, they have launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral and medical costs. Their message to the suspected driver includes thoughts of prayer and hope for her to learn from this tragic incident.
