Largest 17th of May celebration outside Norway happening in Ballard

Seattle's Ballard neighborhood will celebrate Syttende Mai, Norway’s Constitution Day, on Saturday, May 17. This year, the grand parade will begin at 4 p. m. , two hours earlier than in 2024, featuring Norway's Ambassador to the U. S.

, Anniken Huitfeldt, as the grand marshal. Festivities commence at 11 a. m. and include live music and various community events. Key landmarks like the Leif Erikson Lodge and the National Nordic Museum will host activities throughout the day.

Spectators can expect a vibrant display of traditional Norwegian attire, floats, and marching bands. Residents should prepare for road closures and parking restrictions, with "No parking" signs set to appear on multiple streets. This celebration continues a 136-year tradition, strengthening ties between Seattle and Norway. The event fosters community spirit and cultural awareness, showcasing the rich heritage of the Norwegian-American community.
