Costco wants to open new store in Tumwater, city information shows | The Olympian

Olympia, WALocal News

Costco is planning to replace its existing store on Littlerock Road with a new, larger facility in Tumwater, measuring 160,000 square feet. This new store will include a gas station with 40 fueling positions and provide parking for 950 vehicles, enhancing customer convenience. The development is part of a broader mixed-use project covering 57 acres, which aims to introduce additional businesses and multi-family housing to the area. According to Mike Matlock, the community development director, the project is driven by Costco's need for a larger store to increase profitability. A meeting with the city's development review committee is scheduled to discuss the proposal and gather feedback before moving forward.

The site, currently forested, indicates a significant transformation ahead. The existing Costco has been a key business in Tumwater since the early 1990s, contributing positively to the local economy, and this new development could further strengthen Costco's presence in the region, especially with the nearby distribution center.
