A fatal apartment fire broke out at 830 NW Rigging Street in Oak Harbor, Washington, around 12:47 a. m. on April 15, 2025. Fire crews from the Oak Harbor Fire Department responded swiftly, arriving within six minutes to find heavy flames and smoke. Firefighters faced challenges due to the intensity of the fire in a second-story apartment, delaying initial searches.

After controlling the blaze, crews discovered one adult victim deceased inside the unit. All other residents were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported among firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by both fire and law enforcement officials. Chief Travis Anderson extended condolences to the victim's family and praised the rapid response of mutual aid units.
