Navy to host four public meetings to address its drinking well water investigation near NAS Whidbey

Oak Harbor, WALocal News

The U. S. Navy will host four public meetings on April 29 and 30, 2025, to discuss its investigation of drinking water wells near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for PFAS contamination. Meetings will be held in Coupeville on April 29 and in Oak Harbor on April 30, with sessions scheduled for both afternoon and evening. The Navy is addressing potential contamination linked to past firefighting foam use, which raises health concerns for residents.

Officials from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and Washington state health departments will attend to provide information and answer questions. Residents with untested wells or those who received requests for resampling can schedule free testing. The Navy stresses the importance of community health and public awareness regarding water safety.

This initiative aligns with federal and state efforts to address PFAS contamination in drinking water. More details are available on the Navy's dedicated website.
