Wheeled All Terrain Vehicles (WATV's) Regulations in Oak Harbor

Oak Harbor, WALocal News

The City of Oak Harbor has embraced outdoor recreation by adopting Ordinance 2013, which allows Wheeled All-Terrain Vehicles (WATVs) to operate on city-maintained streets and roads starting December 3, 2024. This initiative aims to provide residents with more versatile transportation options while ensuring safety and compliance with local regulations. A detailed public map has been made available, directing users on where they can legally ride their WATVs, with particular emphasis on prohibiting use on Highway 20. The ordinance also restricts WATV operation in city parks, allowing access only to paved parking areas. For those living or working at NAS Whidbey Island, it's essential to check with Navy authorities, as the city does not regulate Navy Streets.

The city encourages all WATV operators to prioritize safe driving practices and adhere to the new guidelines. This development not only enhances local mobility but also fosters a culture of responsible recreation within the community. The ordinance reflects the city's commitment to balancing recreational opportunities with public safety.
