SR 20 to close for two nights beginning Oct. 1 north of Oak Harbor

Oak Harbor, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation plans to close State Route 20 near Oak Harbor from 7 p. m. to 5 a. m. nightly, beginning Oct.

1 through Oct. 3. These closures will prepare the roadway for paving as part of a new compact roundabout project. The roundabout is designed to slow vehicle speeds, calm traffic, and simplify decision-making for drivers at the intersection. Detour routes for travelers will include West Ault Field Road and Goldie Road for both eastbound and westbound traffic.

Local drivers can utilize Sleeper Road and Crescent Harbor Road to bypass the construction. Crews have completed most of the construction but faced delays due to rain affecting paving. The project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow, particularly for large trucks navigating the new roundabout. Real-time travel information is accessible through the WSDOT mobile app and Travel Center Map.
