Puget Sound Energy breaks ground on new utility-scale solar project in Washington state
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) broke ground on the Appaloosa Solar Project in Garfield County, Washington, which will produce 142 MW of clean energy, enough to power over 30,000 homes. This solar facility aims to bolster PSE's efforts to meet peak summer energy demand while contributing 4% towards the company's 2030 clean energy targets. Approximately 300 workers will be employed during the construction phase, with an emphasis on local and diverse suppliers to stimulate regional economic development. Qcells EPC will oversee the construction, which will last until 2026. The project received a conditional use permit from Garfield County after two years of community engagement and three public meetings.
PSE continues to strengthen its relationship with the local community, planning educational tours of the facility upon completion. Since the implementation of the Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA) in 2019, PSE has added over 6,000 MW of renewable energy resources to its portfolio. The Appaloosa Solar Project highlights PSE's commitment to a lower carbon future and supports Washington state's ambitious clean energy goals.
