Galloping Goose will bridge Tillicum for a safer commute

North Vancouver, BCLocal News

Saanich plans to build the Tillicum Active Transportation Bridge, a 100-metre structure designed to improve safety for Galloping Goose Regional Trail users. It will feature two three-metre-wide lanes and ramp access for accessibility, with construction starting in early 2026 and an expected opening in summer 2027. An open house on June 18, 2025, will provide residents with additional information about the project. This bridge will eliminate one of the last signalized crossings along the trail, which sees over 3,000 users daily in summer. The project aims to support the Province’s South Island Transportation Strategy, enhancing connectivity between communities.

During construction, users will be temporarily detoured onto the shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway, separated by concrete barriers. The bridge will encourage more people to choose active transportation, benefiting outdoor enthusiasts and commuters alike. Overall, the project reflects a commitment to improving local infrastructure for a healthier, more connected community.
