New digital service will help lower home-energy bills

North Vancouver, BCGovernment

The Province of British Columbia has introduced the BC Home Energy Planner, a digital tool designed to help homeowners and renters boost energy efficiency and reduce heating bills. Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, emphasized the potential energy waste in older homes and the tool's ability to address this issue. The planner assesses energy use by identifying problems such as poor insulation and old windows, and it provides actionable retrofit recommendations. It also connects users with relevant programs and registered contractors to facilitate upgrades. The tool is compatible with a range of home types, including single-family homes and townhouses, but does not support condominiums or apartments.

Kelly Greene, Minister of Emergency Management, noted the planner's role in preparing homes for extreme weather events. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to climate action and aims to empower British Columbians to make smarter energy choices. By utilizing public data, the planner also helps residents understand their home's energy score and potential improvements.
