Overnight closures planned for Highway 1 through Fraser Canyon
Highway 1 will undergo overnight closures to facilitate the construction of a new bridge over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway. These closures are scheduled for May 28, May 29, and June 3, 2025, from 7 p. m. to 5 a. m.
each night. Motorists will find checkpoints at Lytton and Spences Bridge providing information on alternative routes, as the highway will be closed at junctions with highways 8 and 12. Local traffic can access the Gladwin area and Nicomen River Road, while all other vehicles will be redirected via Highways 12 and 5. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit is working with emergency services to ensure access during the closures, underscoring the importance of maintaining safety during construction. Portable message boards will guide drivers in Lillooet and Ashcroft to navigate the detours.
Travelers heading between the Interior and Lower Mainland can consider using Highways 3 or 5 as alternatives. For current updates on the closure and road conditions, travelers should monitor forecasts and check www. drivebc. ca.
