New funding strengthens rural and Indigenous communities
The Government of British Columbia is investing up to $43 million in over 130 projects to enhance economic diversification and job creation in rural and Indigenous communities. Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, highlighted the collaboration with local leaders to foster impactful projects. One notable initiative is the expansion of the Sea to Sky Outdoor Adventure Recreation Enterprise's (SOARE) Basecamp Innovation Centre, which aims to further develop the outdoor recreation sector in the region. In northern B. C.
, the Indigenous Economic Resilience project will establish a culturally safe skills-training and employment center to support job growth and community wellness. The REDIP program is expected to create approximately 2,200 jobs and is projected to invest a total of $142 million in more than 450 projects across B. C. over its first three years. The funding will also support initiatives like the Communities Talking project, which aims to improve understanding of local economies.
Additional funding opportunities for rural economic development are projected to be available this year. Investments like these are crucial for strengthening local economies and promoting sustainable growth.
