Funding supports new projects to promote recycling, prevent plastic waste
The B. C. government is investing over $8 million in 2025 through the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund to foster innovation in plastic recycling and waste prevention. This funding will support 34 new projects, with a significant portion allocated to Indigenous-led initiatives, which will receive more than $1. 5 million.
Minister Tamara Davidson highlighted the commitment to creating healthy communities while generating clean jobs. The fund has previously allocated over $35 million to 63 projects, resulting in the creation of over 240 long-term jobs. Projects receiving funding this year include initiatives for reusable cup expansion, textile recycling, and the installation of industrial dishwashers to minimize single-use dinnerware. Cody Irwin, CEO of ShareWares, noted the funding's role in developing facilities for reusable foodware, supporting a transition to low-waste communities. The CleanBC Plastics Action Fund is a key component of the province's strategy to reduce plastic waste and encourage sustainable practices.
This initiative builds on previous efforts to reduce single-use plastics and enhance recycling programs across British Columbia.
