Premier leading Asia trade mission to promote B.C. investment, support good jobs
Premier David Eby leads a trade mission to Asia from June 1 to June 10, focusing on enhancing trade relationships in Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea. The mission aims to diversify trade and attract investment in sectors like clean energy, technology, and agriculture. Eby highlighted the need to expand markets due to growing uncertainty with traditional trading partners. The team includes Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham, who emphasized the agricultural sector's role in generating over 40,000 jobs and $6 billion in annual export sales. This mission builds on B.
C. 's trade diversification strategy and follows Eby's earlier visit to the region in 2023. The Indo-Pacific region is projected to account for more than half the global economy by 2040, making it a vital focus for B. C. 's trade efforts.
The team will engage with government officials and business leaders to discuss partnership opportunities. By promoting B. C. 's strengths, the mission aims to secure new trade and investment avenues.
