Streamlined process cuts wait times, bringing more U.S. nurses to B.C.
British Columbia's new streamlined credential recognition process enables U. S. nurses to register in days rather than months, resulting in a 127% rise in applications. Premier David Eby stated that this initiative appeals to American healthcare professionals looking for a supportive environment. The BC College of Nurses and Midwives has enhanced the registration process by allowing direct applications and utilizing a shared database for educational verification.
Health Minister Josie Osborne reported that nearly 1,200 healthcare workers from the U. S. expressed interest in working in B. C. since the recruitment campaign started in March 2025.
The province is focusing on states like Washington, Oregon, and specific California cities for targeted outreach. This recruitment effort addresses significant shortages in areas like cancer care and emergency departments. The collaborative approach includes tailored support from Health Match BC to guide applicants through the process. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen public health care in British Columbia.
