North Vancouver, BCLocal News

The First Baptist Church in downtown Vancouver has launched a new child care center, creating 37 licensed spaces for local families. Funded by over $464,000 from the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, the center aims to address the growing need for affordable child care in the area. Parliamentary Secretary Rohini Arora stated that these new spaces are crucial for working parents and single mothers in the community. The center will be operated by Wind and Tide, a child care provider with more than 35 years of experience. It will feature 12 spaces for children younger than 36 months and 25 for those aged 30 months to school age.

This initiative is part of the provincial government's broader strategy to enhance access to quality child care, with over 40,900 new spaces funded since 2018. The funding sources include provincial investments and federal support under the Canada-British Columbia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. This effort underscores the government's commitment to making quality child care a fundamental service for all British Columbians.
