Outstanding B.C. lawyers receive Kings Counsel designation
Twenty-nine lawyers in British Columbia received the King’s Counsel (KC) designation for 2024, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the legal profession. Candidates must be B. C. bar members for at least five years and nominated by their peers, with nominations reviewed by an advisory committee consisting of the deputy attorney general and justices. The committee recommends candidates to the attorney general, and the final appointments are made by cabinet.
The KC designation permits appointees to add the letters KC after their names, indicating peer recognition for their work. No more than 7% of practicing B. C. lawyers can hold this designation at any time. This year’s awardees include practitioners from private practice, government, and academia, each distinguished by their counsel, teaching, publications, and advocacy efforts.
Notable appointees include Peter Ameerali, a public law litigator, and Morgan Camley, known for her work in complex litigation and regulatory matters. Their contributions enhance the judicial system and promote access to justice in British Columbia.
