B.C. invests in planning for northern youth support centre
The B. C. government announces a $500,000 investment for a feasibility study to establish a service hub for children and youth in northern B. C. , spearheaded by Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
Chief Dolleen Logan underscores the significance of extensive consultations with municipalities and First Nations to understand local needs. The study will outline necessary services and infrastructure to support youth effectively, following previous engagements that revealed a demand for culturally safe wellness resources. Minister of Health Josie Osborne highlights that supporting youth today fosters healthier generations in the future. The feasibility study will involve collaboration with the First Nations Health Authority and Northern Health, with completion anticipated in 2025. This initiative aims to enhance access to culturally appropriate care for First Nations youth, aligning with the province's commitment to trauma-informed services.
Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has previously engaged communities to inform the scope of this project, emphasizing the importance of local input. The project represents a significant step towards improving the overall health and well-being of children and youth in the region.
