CleanBC review launched to strengthen climate action, results for people
The British Columbia government has announced an independent review of its CleanBC programs to ensure they effectively reduce emissions while promoting economic growth and affordability. Although emissions per person have decreased, total emissions have remained constant, suggesting that the province is falling short of its 2025 and 2030 targets. Led by climate policy experts Merran Smith and Dan Woynillowicz, the review will evaluate current programs, assess climate targets, and recommend improvements. Stakeholder engagement will include Indigenous Peoples, local governments, and the Climate Solutions Council. Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, stated that the review aims to ensure the CleanBC plan is effective and focused on delivering necessary outcomes for the economy and communities.
This undertaking occurs one year ahead of schedule, as per the 2024 Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord with the BC Green caucus. The review represents a critical opportunity to strengthen climate action in B. C. The final report is anticipated in late fall 2025.
