Road projects improve safety, reliability in Cariboo
The Cariboo region is advancing three critical road-improvement projects to bolster safety and reliability after severe weather caused significant damage. Minister of Transportation Mike Farnworth affirmed that enhancing infrastructure is vital for local residents and businesses. The Kersley-Dale Landing Road will feature a new alignment to avoid landslide-prone areas, with construction commencing in the coming months. The Quesnel-Hydraulic Road will undergo stabilization and realignment, with a construction tender expected this year and work beginning as early as spring 2026. Bastin Road improvements will include measures to mitigate landslide risks, with construction slated for summer 2025.
Furthermore, a section of Durrell Road will remain closed due to past landslides, and the area will be naturalized to facilitate traffic flow. Since 2020, changing weather patterns have led to numerous landslides and washouts, prompting the Ministry of Transportation to prioritize resilient infrastructure. Four previous projects under the Cariboo Road Recovery Project have already progressed to construction or completion.
