British Columbia has declared May 2, 2025, as an official day of remembrance for the victims of the Lapu Lapu Day Festival tragedy that occurred in Vancouver on April 26, 2025. In this horrific incident, eleven people were killed, and many others suffered injuries while celebrating Filipino culture. The tragedy has profoundly affected the Filipino community in B. C. and elicited a strong response from citizens across the province.

The designated day of remembrance aims to honor the victims and support community healing by recognizing their contributions. Various resources are available for those impacted, including counseling through the VPD Victim Services Unit and ICBC supports for the injured and bereaved families. Additionally, B. C. ’s crisis line offers mental health support for anyone in need.

School districts are also mobilizing resources to assist students and families affected by the tragedy. The Ministry of Emergency Management is working alongside local organizations to ensure comprehensive support for all impacted individuals.
