B.C. supports advanced manufacturing of forestry products

The Government of B. C. has announced an investment of up to $11 million through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund to support four forestry-sector projects aimed at enhancing local manufacturing and creating sustainable jobs. Spearhead Timberworks Inc. , located near Nelson, will receive $7.

5 million to construct a new facility and implement advanced production technology, which is expected to create over 60 skilled jobs in the area. Minister Diana Gibson highlighted the significance of these investments for strengthening homegrown companies and local economies. Other companies benefiting from the funding include Westlam Industries Ltd. , which will receive $1. 5 million to build a new production facility and increase productivity, creating 46 jobs.

Additionally, Mercer Celgar Limited Partnership will receive $1. 75 million for modernization efforts that will secure over 400 jobs at its kraft pulp mill. These initiatives reflect B. C. 's commitment to mass-timber innovation, showcasing the potential of local resources in generating economic benefits.

The Kootenay region is rapidly establishing itself as a hub for the mass-timber economy, connecting local sawmills and manufacturers. This investment not only aims to strengthen the forestry sector but also to promote sustainable job growth across the province.
