Province is on the right track toward safer roads in B.C.
The Vision Zero Grant Program in British Columbia will distribute $794,991 to 50 communities in 2025 to enhance local road safety and promote active transportation options. Among the funded projects, 15 will be implemented in First Nations communities to fill critical mobility gaps. Minister of Health Josie Osborne emphasized that prioritizing injury prevention leads to healthier and safer communities. The program, now in its fourth year, has supported over 200 projects and awarded more than $3 million since its inception in 2021. The initiative specifically targets reducing traffic injuries in underserved neighborhoods and Indigenous populations, aiming to lower healthcare costs and improve health system capacity.
Additionally, it aligns with provincial climate change efforts by encouraging sustainable transportation options. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit plans to upgrade infrastructure to facilitate safer walking, cycling, and public transit. Local leaders express gratitude for the funding, which addresses long-standing safety concerns in their communities.
