Juan de Fuca Marine Trail remains closed, day-use areas open in park

North Vancouver, BCLocal News

The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, renowned for its rugged coastal hikes, will remain closed this summer due to extensive damage from fall and winter storms. Key sections of the 47-kilometre trail have been rendered unsafe for hikers, with significant washouts and fallen trees blocking access. Five backcountry campgrounds, including Bear Beach and Payzant Creek, will not reopen until repairs are completed. Fortunately, outdoor enthusiasts can still enjoy day-use areas at Mystic Beach, East Sombrio Beach, China Beach, and Botanical Beach, providing opportunities for day hikes and exploration. The trail is particularly known for its challenging terrain, which attracts both day and multi-day hikers.

A phased reopening is anticipated as repairs are made, ensuring safety for future visitors. For ongoing updates regarding the trail's status and reopening timelines, the public is directed to the BC Parks website. This proactive communication underscores the commitment to maintaining safe and accessible outdoor spaces in the region.
