BC Transit expands bus service in Whistler

North Vancouver, BCLocal News

On April 22, 2025, Whistler will see a significant enhancement in its public transit system, with improved frequency and extended hours on key bus routes. This expansion, driven by a partnership between BC Transit and the provincial government, includes an additional 6,000 annual service hours aimed at making transit more accessible for local residents. Minister of Transportation and Transit Mike Farnworth emphasized the importance of reliable public transportation in connecting people to work, school, and family. Jeremy Valeriote, interim leader of the BC Greens, echoed this sentiment, stating that the expansion is crucial for fostering a more equitable local economy. The added service will also help mitigate the seasonal fluctuations in transit availability that have affected riders in the past.

With an investment of approximately $184 million in operating funding for 2025-26, the province is committed to enhancing public transportation across British Columbia. This initiative not only aims to improve access to transit but also to reduce road congestion, benefiting the entire community. As Whistler prepares for these changes, residents can look forward to a more reliable and efficient transit experience.
