Highway 1 lanes closed in Hope for sinkhole repairs

North Vancouver, BCLocal News

Highway 1 in Hope is set to experience lane reductions beginning tonight, March 27, 2025, due to urgent repairs for a sinkhole that has recently deteriorated. The sinkhole first emerged in November 2024, prompting initial repairs and ongoing monitoring. However, heavy rainfall has exacerbated the situation, leading to the need for further interim repairs to ensure the safety of motorists. Eastbound traffic will be routed through a median crossover, accommodating commercial vehicles up to five meters wide. Throughout the repair work, Exit 165 will remain closed, with drivers advised to use Exit 168 to access Flood Hope Road.

Anticipate significant delays, particularly during peak hours on Sunday, March 30, as spring break travel increases traffic. A reduced speed limit will be enforced, with reminders for drivers to adhere to all signage and remain alert for roadside workers. Updates on the progress of repairs will be posted on DriveBC, providing essential information for travelers.
