Cottonwoods long-term care moves closer to construction

Kelowna is set to benefit from a new long-term care home as the Cottonwoods Care Centre redevelopment project moves forward with signed contracts for design and construction. Stantec Architecture Ltd. has been selected as the prime consultant, while Bird Construction Group will manage construction efforts. This new facility will expand the number of beds from 221 to 314, providing crucial support for the aging population in the Okanagan region. Susie Chant, parliamentary secretary for seniors, highlighted the project as a major milestone for ensuring seniors can receive care close to their communities.

The modern design will include private rooms and areas tailored to support residents with dementia, reflecting best practices in care. The estimated cost of $186. 87 million will be funded by both the provincial government and local health districts. Phase 1 is anticipated to commence in fall 2025 and conclude by summer 2027, with an additional phase for community services to follow. This initiative represents a significant commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in British Columbia.
