New homes in Victoria support people in recovery
Victoria is set to launch recovery-oriented housing at 1153 Johnson St. , thanks to a partnership involving the Province, the City, and the Victoria Cool Aid Society. The facility will feature 20 self-contained units tailored for individuals who have reached a minimum of 60 days sober after treatment. Minister of Housing Christine Boyle highlighted the urgent need for such supportive housing in the community. The funding structure includes $1.
2 million from the Province and nearly $590,000 from the City, along with $250,000 allocated for building upgrades. Johnson Manor will not only support recovery but also help residents develop independent living skills. This initiative is expected to free up existing supportive housing spaces for others experiencing homelessness. Angela Moran from Cool Aid expressed excitement over this strategic priority that addresses a critical need in the recovery continuum. Community notifications about property renovations are planned, with residents anticipated to move in by early spring 2026.
